Ask the court for another type of order

During your family law case, you can ask the judge for other types of things, often related to the legal process of the case. For example, ask the judge to set aside (cancel) a default or to order your spouse to finish their financial disclosures. To do this, you use the Request for Order (form FL-300).

Other types of orders you may need

Property control

During a legal separation or divorce, you can ask a judge to order that one spouse gets control of property or pays certain bills. This is called property control

Attorney's fees

During a family law case, like a divorce or parentage case, you can ask the judge to order your spouse or the other parent to pay you money to hire a lawyer (an attorney). This is called asking for attorney’s fees.

Some of these other requests can be complicated

You may need to write the legal reason for your request. There may be other forms you have to attach. For these types of requests consider getting help from the Self-Help Center or Family Law Facilitator at your court. A local law library may also have resources for you.
